Good morning and welcome to create with Heidi. I'm Heidi Kaisand, owner of hidden chicks studio in Conrad, Iowa, and lover of all things creative. Each week here on create with Heidi, we like to cover topics that educate and inspire you about how people are being creative, whether it's quilting, scrapbooking, food, wool, or just hanging out with others who seem to have their creative Mojo groovin in all the right directions, we are excited to share these things with you. My quote, or verse this morning, as I like to always start with a good quote, is really touching my heart this morning for lots of reasons. And you're going to learn more about it here in the next few minutes. But today, the verse is, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable. If anything is excellent, or praiseworthy, think about such things. And this is Philippians, four, eight. And that verse is just as so important to me for so many different reasons. You hear me talk a lot about choosing happy. If you hang out with any of us at hidden chicks studio, you know, that is sort of my saying that we get to choose happy and it's that thinking, if anything is excellent or praiseworthy, think about such things. Well, this, this whole attitude of focusing on what is good, what is happy, has led me to join forces with my friend Marcy stone. And good morning. Marci Are you there? I am Heidi. Good morning. Oh, good morning. I'm so glad you are with us this morning. And we'll we'll get into all of that as we get talking. But
when you were on the radio show once before and and Marcy, you are a, you are a minister, you are a personal life coach, you have lots of different titles. I know. We had such a heartwarming conversation about just about taking care of ourselves and focusing on things. So we've decided to join forces and do a six week
event. That is part devotional part journaling part doodling, and it's called choose happy. And and it starts tomorrow morning, we're so excited.
Yes, we are I am excited about it.
And and anybody can participate in this, there is a small fee associated with it, it's $14.95. And of course, you can go to hidden chicks studio.com slash choose happy. And you'll find out more information about what we're talking about this morning. But also, on our website under classes, you can sign up there several different ways. We'll put the link also on our website again today. But when I called you and said, Hey, we need to do something. And I sort of, I'll say my mouth exploded with all of these different phrases. This verse that I just spoke was what? What first came to your mind? Didn't it about about all those things?
It did. You know, one of the things I love about Philippians. Four is that we are the entire chapter is that we are given the command to rejoice. And so that doesn't just screen choose happy, right? This seems like a perfect fit Haiti for working alongside you. And I'm thrilled about doing so.

And and when I think about this verse, of course, there's many different ways to apply it. And it's what's wonderful is that we're kind of dividing it up into the the true, the noble, the right, pure, lovely, admirable, we're going to be dividing that up over the course of the next six weeks. And, and this is this is a virtual class. So you can sit in the comfort of your own home and have your cup of coffee and join us on zoom. And if you can't join us, it will be recorded. And you can watch it later. So there's there's no, no missed opportunity. I'll put it that way.
Right and only 30 minutes. So brief. We're going to be all about getting to the point connecting, having fun, being happy and joyful together. And I also love that they're going to get the opportunity to download one of your doodles.
Yes, that will be very fun. That will be very fun. And you know, and when we think about it being brief, it's almost like the length of this show, which goes so fast. I always, you know, amazed when the when the half hour is over that it's like, oh, we're done. So and even with that, it's already time for a commercial break. So we're gonna take a quick break, and we'll be back right after this. This is Heidi Kaisand from hidden chicks studio and Conrad. Here's page with their story of quilting at hen and chick studio, I have done quite a few retreats up there,
she has a great space, I love going up there because especially when I'm cutting fabric, and if you're cool to your own, just stand this, it's a pyre so you're not bending over. And she has these display mounts so we can, you can put it up there and reorganize rather than having to lay it on the floor. It's a it's a great space up there friends, my mom and my sister we all go together my aunt actually a lot of us do it together. And a lot of time we work on the same quilt together. So there's one person cutting one person sewing one person ironing, we can whip out a quilt in a few hours depending on the size and and check studio at one on one North
Main Street and Conrad, schedule a retreat with friends and family today and come make some memories with us online at hidden chicks studio.com Welcome back to create with Heidi, this is Heidi Kaisand from hidden chicks studio. And my guest today is mercy stone. And Marcy and I are joining forces for an event called choose happy. So you can go to hen and chicks studio.com slash choose happy and learn more about it. But this event is virtual, it is for everybody, you do not have to be a quilter You don't have to be you know, don't be thinking Well, I'm not a quilter I this isn't you know, this is for men, this is for women, this is for anybody who needs some uplifting, some fill your cup up and overflow it in the next six weeks. For like Marcy was saying 30 minutes, we're gonna do it at eight o'clock in the morning to hopefully start your day off. But again, it'll be recorded. So if you can't watch it, eight, you can watch it whenever you need that. But Marcy, when I when I was reading this verse again this morning, and, you know, thinking about it, and just studying it just a little bit. One of the one of the phrases that is attached, you know, up to say to it, is what we put in our minds, determines what comes out in our words and actions. That's so true, isn't it? Yes. And and when I read that, you know, as a explanation of this, this verse, it is definitely a philosophy, a definitely a way of life, that, that in order to choose happy, there are there are things that we have to put in our minds to be able to do that. Once you agree.
Oh, absolutely. Absolutely. I think that, you know, we get to, we get to be purposeful about what we're going to focus on. And I love what Joyce Myers says that thoughts are like birds, they fight your mind. I may have said this last time I was on your show, because it's one of my favorites. Thoughts are like birds that fly through our mind. We can't always control the thoughts, we get to decide what builds a nest. Oh, that is good. I don't remember.
Very good. That is
very great. Yeah, I think that that fits well with these, with this passage as well. Because what we're being taught here by the Apostle Paul and Timothy, is that, despite our circumstances, despite what's going on, not only around us, but between us, we can choose to be at peace, rejoice, be happy. And isn't that what we need right now that we see so much discord happening in our world and in between people and we get to be reminded through this that we get to choose we get to choose to find that that peace, that joy by focusing on the things that are true and noble. And as the list goes on,
you know, and, and mercy every day, we're all faced with with different kinds of things. And I'm going to let our listeners know that you right now are our I'm gonna say fighting some ailments. I'll put it that way. And in you're actually you're actually in the hospital correct?
I am. I am in the hospital. In fact, I'm waiting for a doctor to come in to tell me when I'm going to have some tests done today. It's been a rocky morning here, Heidi. So I wasn't real sure I was gonna make it on the call with you. But I'm so glad that God has provided that opportunity and Things are working out. So in the midst of difficult times like this, we still get to choose what we're going to give our attention. And our thoughts to, we still get to choose what we're going to meditate on, right. So what you were mentioning before about taking control of our thoughts of our mind, that really is the most powerful thing that we can do. And that's what we're called to do as Christians. We're not called to feel happy all the time, we're not going to feel happy all the time, feelings are fleeting, and feelings change. I like to say they change with the wind, you know, we're gonna feel lots of different things, all within an hour sometimes. But we get to choose what we focus on what we stay on.
And even in, in the midst of where, like, you know, what your challenges today, you're trying to work, you know, figure out what is wrong and, and how to get better, you are still surrounding yourself with those positive thoughts and actions. And, and at some point, I have to believe that it will help you heal because of that, that you're giving yourself those positive vibes that that that things are going to go right.
Absolutely. You know, I'm sitting here, yes, I'm in the hospital, but I'm looking at a window at a beautiful scene with trees that are lush, and there's flowers on the ground below me and that I can choose to look at that, or I can choose to focus on the fact that, you know, I don't have any answers. And there's pain in my life. And the truth is what you said earlier, we all have that we all have those things going on at some level. And so yeah, whatever we choose to fix our eyes on is what we're going to continue to look for. I love what Yeah, I love what positive thinking can do for our body, our mind, spirit and our physical body. As you said, I think that when we fix our, that's a positive things that we tend to bring healing about ourselves. And I've seen that happen again. And again, in my life. One of my favorite things to do when I'm in the hospital, or I'm facing physical challenges is to use social media to hop on and proclaim good things in my life. Because that helps me to focus on the good things, and also to share them with others and just bring more attention to that than the negative. I think that, you know, we've probably all experienced that at some level where we could say, Wow, when I chose to make that the priority of my mind, then that's what I manifested, or I prayed for, or whatever word you want to use. To me, those things are one of the same, you know, communion with God or communion with spirit. And so that is the great power that I find in Scripture and in being with others, like yourself that see the world the same, the same way in that spirit of communion and positivity.
Oh, absolutely, I'd say surrounding ourselves with others that that think the same way. And I have to just tell a little story about last week, and trust me, this is you know, nothing serious. But last Thursday, a series of events occurred. A cheque was swallowed up in a bank vault, a phone died, some concert tickets were lost digitally. There were there were you know, trying to recover them a password was lost. And the only way to get password was to go back to the phone. But the phone was dead. And there was a series of events that, you know, I can now laugh about it, you know, but, but three or four days ago, it was not comical, because it was all happening at once. And it was all and I remember, late in the day, that day, when I felt I was exhausted. I mean, I was mentally exhausted. And I'm like, Heidi, think about this, think about why you're exhausted today. It's because I let my mind in many ways get caught up in all of this Nxd of different things. And I I stopped for a moment, thinking about the good things that had happened that day. And I made a point of stopping myself and going, Hey, you know what, I got to be in the car with my son for you know, two hours basically coming and going to a doctor's appointment that went well. You know what I mean? Like Yeah, like That was precious time. Yeah, you know, and, and it's amazing how it doesn't take much to start to turn out a goat there is good in every day. There is good in every situation. Sometimes we just have to stop and and bring it back up to the surface.
So that's a beautiful example. Yes. I love that. I think sometimes we I've been guilty in my life of thinking at times that, you know, only Pollyannas see the world this way or only people who have this special rose colored glasses, you know that. But I love what Charles Spurgeon shares Do I have a minute to share with
you save that, quote, your timing is perfect, you save that quote, we're gonna go to the second commercial break. And when we come back, you give us that quote, perfect. This is Heidi Kaisand from Henan chicks studio in Conrad, here's page with our story of quilting at hand and check Oh, I call it a lot.
I do. I use hen and chicks quite a bit. I love Heidi, I even tend to manipulate the patterns that I use to fit what I want. She's always so helpful. It really is a lot of fun to spend time with my family members as well as you know, friends, we get a lot of talking done a lot of reminiscing and you know, we work so well together doing our quilts that it just goes so smoothly and and Heidi is always there or available for us if we have any questions or need anything, and we of course can go downstairs. And if we forgot a piece of fabric or forgot we need more rotary cutters or anything that we might have forgotten it's down there and we can just grab it and buy it and we don't have to worry about it
hidden check studio at one on one North Main Street in Conrad, schedule a retreat today and come make some memories with us online at hidden chicks studio.com Welcome back to create with Heidi, this is Heidi Kaisand with Marci stone. And we're having fun talking about things that are uplifting and focusing on the good. And just before the break. Marcy was about to share a quote with us. So go ahead, Marcy, and tell us tell us that quote.
Okay, great. This is a passage by Charles Spurgeon. And he says that people who are very happy, especially those who are very happy in the Lord, are not apt either to give offense or to take offense. Their minds are so sweetly occupied with higher things, that they are not easily distracted by the little troubles which naturally arise among such imperfect creatures as we are joined the Lord is the cure for all Discord. That great yeah,
that is very good. That's very good. Oh, yeah, there's so much good stuff. And just what we're doing this morning mercy, that's this is what we envision for the next six weeks on Thursday mornings at eight o'clock is a time to to uplift, and to surround ourselves with some goodness, to talk a little bit about doodling, maybe offer some journaling prompts some different things that that our attendees might like, again, to share in that goodness. And that is exciting for us to be able to think about that. So if people want to go to hidden chicks studio.com slash choose happy. They can definitely it's $14.95. And, and join us it's again, it's a virtual event. So you don't have to be in Conrad. You don't have to be in Des Moines. You can be anywhere in our anywhere in the world, as long as you have an internet connection and can join us via zoom.
Yeah, exactly. How do you thank you so much for having me on today. And I'm so excited to start tomorrow with You. You.
It'll be fabulous. I'll let you go. Merci. I'll wrap up the show. And we'll see you tomorrow morning at eight o'clock.
Okay, sounds great. Thanks, Heidi.
Oh, well had it's just been a lovely morning already with Marcy. And if you if you talk to me long enough, you'll know that these are the kinds of thoughts I like to fill my mind with that. You know, again, as I said earlier, what we put in our minds determine what comes out in our words and action and our actions. And one of the things I love best when I'm doing some reading and studying about things like this is simple reminders that this does take practice. This is not necessarily something that comes naturally for most people, or for any of us because we have so many different things that are going on in our lives. that it does take practice it, you know, it takes like for example, the story I was telling of last week When I, I had to stop myself and say, okay, it's been a crazy day, these crazy things have happened. Nobody has died. Yes, it's been frustrating. Yes, I've, you know, had a short fuse because of a couple things. But what went well today? What What did go right today. And I was even telling Kyle, the story this morning that I got a fist bump from Henry surgeon from a recent surgery and you know, made me feel kind of good because I, Henry had some surgery done. And when he was showing the doctor was showing us his work. I said, you did a really nice job of coaching that muscle and he said, couching. And I said, Well, that's a sewing term. And anyway, he fist bump me and said that I had taught him something new today, you know, that was all happening in the midst of this craziness. That was also happening. And if I kept focusing on those things, my day looked better. It felt better, I was more relaxed. And I love getting up in the morning. And having that renewed desire to think that today is the day that I can focus my mind programming with the stuff that I want, surround myself with the people I want. And, and to really focus on what is good and to be able to choose happy because it is a choice. And it's a choice that doesn't always come easy. And like I said, I'm right there. Even though I love to choose happy and I am a happy person. It doesn't mean just like Marcy said that it doesn't, you can't always be happy. So if this sounds like something that you or any of your friends would like to participate in, we'd love to have you sign up today to be a part of our choose happy event, you can do it in one of two ways. You can go to hidden chicks studio.com slash choose happy, and that page will come up. And there's the link to Mercy's previous interview here. And a couple other video that I did that kind of thing. So you'll find that or you can go under the classes tab. But there is a video on that page that I did a week ago or so also talking a little bit more in depth about my morning routine. And how filling my mind every morning with information like this is a part of my daily ritual. Because if I do that in the morning, then when things go crazy, I'm better suited to handle those things. Now, just a reminder, this is also 100 days to Christmas event this week at hidden chicks studio.
