Welcome to Hen & Chicks Studio!
How exciting to be a part of The Splendid Sampler! Pat Sloan and Jane Davidson have done a great job putting together this event and I couldn’t be happier to be a part of it. The block we’re featuring is the traditional Hen & Chicks block. It’s been a longtime favorite block and fits perfectly with the name of my independent quilt shop, Hen & Chicks Studio. We are located in central Iowa in a the beautiful community of Conrad. Hen & Chicks Studio features a little bit of everything -- quilting cottons, scrapbooking, painting, embroidery, wool, and more! We also have a full service retreat center located right above Hen & Chicks Studio called The Nest.

Although the Hen & Chicks block has been around decades, it wasn’t what inspired me to name my shop with it in. I actually think of myself as a mother hen. Taking care of people, like a good mother hen, is what I like to do. Whether it’s my three favorite chicks — Henry, Goldie, and Virginia — mothering them and nurturing them into young people, or it’s our customers that we help in selecting fabrics and completing projects, I’m here to help. So, I’ve played with the Hen & Chicks block many times...as a table runner.
